SUNDAY DEC 2, 2007 (Foodconsumer.org) -- Drinking pomegranate juice daily may help male impotence, according to new research.
Men who drank the juice daily for a month experienced better performance in the bedroom.
It's believed that the antioxidants in pomegranate juice boost blood supplies to the male genitals by raising levels of nitric oxide, a compound that helps relax blood vessel and make blood flow easier.
Scientist believes it works in a similar way as Viagra does.
The study published in the journal of Impotence Research involved men suffering mild-to-moderate impotence.
In the research, scientist at the University of California in Los Angeles gave the patients a daily dose of eight fluid ounces of pomegranate juice. After one month, they switched to another fruit juice.
The study showed 47 percent of the patients experienced improvements in erectile function after drinking the juice. But when drinking a placebo juice, 31 percent also reported improvements.
