The FDA sent a warning letter on Dec 10 to Coca-Cola Co saying its Diet Coke Plus with added vitamins and minerals does not meet the agency's standards, Reuters reported Dec 23.
The agency said that it is inappropriate to fortify snack foods like carbonated beverages and the product's label does not include the added amounts of nutrients.
Coco-cola defended its product claims. Company spokesman Scott Williamson was quoted by Reuters as telling the news outlet "This does not involve any health or safety issues, and we believe the label on Diet Coke Plus complies with FDA's policies and regulations."
