“Twilight” breaks a record

The vampire romance movie "Twilight" has reportedly drawn more than $70 million in ticket sales at the box office in its opening weekend.   The movie turns out to be hugely popular with teenage girls.

The film directed by Catherine Hardwicke has proved to have the biggest opening ever for a female director compared to the previous standard of $41 million set by Mimi Leder's film "Deep Impact" in 1998, AssocatedPress reported.

The movie is based on an action-packed, modern-day love story of forbidden love between a bookish teenage girl Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and a brooding vampire Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson). This is told in the #1 New York Times Best-Selling series with over 17 million books in print by Stephenie Meyer.

The story goes like this: Bella is sent to live with her father in Forks, Washington after her mother re-marries. Then in the rainy little town, she meets the mysterious and beautiful Edward Cullen, a boy with such charm she has never met or ever imagined.

Edward is actually a vampire, but a different type that does not have fangs and his family members do not feed on human blood.   Edward certainly knows what Bella is thinking deep in her mind about him after an encounter.   Soon both fall in irresistible love with each other and create a scene of a passionate, thrilling and unorthodox romance.

But as always it is fascinating for a vampire to mingle with a human.   Somehow, Bella's scent is such that it almost sends him into an uncontrollable frenzy.   Then come to town a clan of new vampires who are ready to disrupt their way of life.
