Roy Edward Disney dies from stomach cancer

Roy Edward Disney, the nephew of Walt Disney died from stomach cancer Wednesday Dec 16, 2009, a Walt Disney spokesman was cited as saying.  He was 79.

Mr Disney was a longtime senior executive for the Walt Disney Company, which was founded by his father Roy Oliver Disney and his uncle Walt Disney.

Roy Disney had reportedly been battling stomach cancer for a year.  He died at Hoag Memorial Hospital in Newport Beach California.

Walt Disney died 43 years ago also from cancer.

Stomach cancer, also called gastric cancer, forms in tissues lining the stomach. The disease is diagnosed in 21,000 men and women in the United States each year and kills 10,000 annually.

Some lifestyle factors that may reduce the risk include green vegetables, broccoli, vitamin C, and green tea.

Some risk factors include sodium, MSG, and Helicobacter Pylori.  Eating dinner too late or eating foods at night has also been associated with increased risk of stomach cancer.
