Stefanie Spielman, the wife of NFL and Ohio State star Chris Spielman, died Thursday after a 12-year battle with breast cancer.

Stefanie Spielman, 42, died at the family's home in Upper Arlington, WBNS radio reported.

Stefanie Spielman was 30 years old and three months pregnant when she noticed a lump in her breast, which was late confirmed to be breast cancer.

She reportedly survived four bouts with cancer before a fifth returned in March.

Stefanie is survived by her husband Chris and their four children, Madison, Noah, Macy and Audrey.

Breast cancer that hits young women tends to be aggressive and patients who suffer this type of cancer have a poor prognosis.

Women are encouraged to undergo mammogram screening to find early stage breast cancer so that doctors may treat the disease earlier so that patients many believe would have a better chance to survive.

A recent study found that breast cancer mammogram screening can help find more cases of disease, but it can't lower the mortality.
