Nutracoastal Trading LLC expands recall of Steam dietary supplement

Nutracoastal Trading LLC based out of Freeport, NY announced on Aug 21 that it is expanding its July 28th 2009 voluntary nationwide recall for the company's dietary supplement product named STEAM.

The company announced the early recall, which urged consumers to return the product seemingly with the lot number 80214, on July 29 after the Food Drug Administration found that the product contains sulfoaildenafil, an analog of sildenalfil, an active ingredient of an FDA approved drug Viagra for ED treatment.

The expanded recall came after the company found one lot of the dietary supplement contains Tadalafil, an active ingredient used in an FDA approved drug for erectile dysfunction (ED). The presence of Tadalafil essentially makes STEAM dietary supplement an unapproved drug.

Additionally, the undeclared ingredient may interact with nitrates in some prescription drugs indicated for treatment of diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol or heart disease and may low blood pressure to a dangerous levels, the company said in its press release.  

The product may also cause side effects such as headaches and flushing, which may occur when an individual takes an ED drug.

No illnesses have been found associated with use of this dietary supplement, the company said.

The product containing the active ED ingredient carries the lot number 90260 and expiry date 6 11 and UPC 8 52263 30033 1

The company urged those who have the product in their possession to stop use it and contact their physician if they have experienced any problems related to use of this dietary supplement.

Any unused product should be return to the retail store where they were purchased or call the company at 866-03-2434.
