Clinicians should consider potential long-term risks when prescribing to adolescents

Zyprexa (olanzapine): Use in Adolescents

Audience: Neuropsychiatric healthcare professionals

Lilly and FDA notified healthcare professionals of changes to the Prescribing Information for Zyprexa related to its indication for use in adolescents (ages 13-17) for treatment of schizophrenia and bipolar I disorder [manic or mixed episodes]. The revised labeling states that:

Section 1, Indications and Usage: When deciding among the alternative treatments available for adolescents, clinicians should consider the increased potential (in adolescents as compared with adults) for weight gain and hyperlipidemia. Clinicians should consider the potential long-term risks when prescribing to adolescents, and in many cases this may lead them to consider prescribing other drugs first in adolescents.

Section 17.14, Need for comprehensive Treatment Program in Pediatric Patients: Zyprexa is indicated as an integral part of a total treatment program for pediatric patients with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder that may include other measures (psychological, educational, social) for patients with the disorder. Effectiveness and safety of ZYPREXA have not been established in pediatric patients less than 13 years of age.

Eli Lilly Zyprexa scandal
Eli Lilly has made $40 billion on $10 a pill Zyprexa and it was way oversold and caused diabetes and in some cases sudden death.

Zyprexa was pushed by Lilly Drug Reps.
They called it the "Five at Five" (5 mg at 5 pm to keep nursing home patients subdued and sleepy) and "VIVA ZYPREXA" (Zyprexa for everybody) campaigns to off label market Eli Lilly Zyprexa as a fix for unapproved usage.

I am a living example of Zyprexa gone/done wrong was given it 1996-2000 off-label for PTSD got sudden high blood sugar A1C 14.7 in January 2000.The stuff was worthless for my condition PTSD and cost me thousands in co-pays gave me diabetes.

There has to be another way to deal with all the mental issues in children and teens the fight of gov to doctors to stop all the pain drugs on the streets and at the same time we are pumping meds into children and teens half the time there given meds by docs that are not in the mental department and do not know what's wrong and once on these meds your never the same can anyone imagine what that does to those that didn't need that med or to strong they end up those living off pain meds. Along with heart meds and all the others because of damage to their bodies there must be other ways more natural ways to start helping us fix some of the things wrong in our bodies and for those who may not have mental problems or mood disorders that end up on all these mental drugs they are later going to have to stay on some kind of drug from the damage done to their mental state and then the other meds for all the other damage to ther rest of your body everything that may have been avoided by good exersize, a proper diet, and finally allowing people to feel and its ok being sad sometimes is normal and its also normal to get mad or upset and all the real things and pressure shoved on children today at school they hold it in and then blow up and they have a problem no they don't the system does its broken and has been for years all we have done is went from our little helpers to shoving them down the kids to make eveyrthing ok its not ok but the med companies are sure making a killing aren't they.
