Some of the most popular natural deodorants may be tainted with some chemical that has been linked to increased risk for Alzheimer's disease.

Potassium alum or potassium aluminum sulfate  was reportedly found in the "crystal" deodorant stones and sprays.

The association was observed from an incident.  In 1988, a truck driver accidentally dumped 20 tons of aluminum sulfate into a town's drinking water.  Over 20 years later, high incidence of Alzheimer's disease was found in the people living in this town.

"Alzheimer's disease is an irreversible progressive brain disease that slowly destroys memory and thinking skills and eventually even the ability to carry out the simplest tasks." nih.gov states on its website.  There is no cure for Alzheimer's disease.

The disease is diagnosed most in people aged 60 or older. About 2.4 to 4.5 million Americans are living with Alzheimer's disease.

Memory problems are one of the first symptoms of Alzheimer's.
