Beef tainted with radioactive substance in Japan

Radiation released from the Fukushima nuclear plant in Japan polluted some Japanese beef, according to media reports.

AFP reported Wednesday meat from 11 cows at a farm near the no-go zone of the polluted area was found to be contaminated with six times higher than the legal limit of a radioactive substance called caesium.

The meat had been shipped across the country and may have been already eaten.  Some media reports cited government officials as saying eating a couple of servings of meat with such a high level of radiation may not pose any health risk.

The farmer reportedly admitted he fed the animals straw polluted with radioactive fallout.
