Another reason to breastfeed your baby
Canadian scientists reported in the FASEB Journal that they discovered that breast milk carries a probiotic that can help alleviate symptoms of digestive disorders.
Mama's breast milk has been already known to benefit both the mother and her baby. U.S. physicians recommend breastfeeding newborns for the very first six months.
Wolfgang Kunze from the McMaster Brain-Body Institute and colleagues found Lactobacillus reuteri om breast milk, which reduces or eliminates painful cramping in the gut.
The discovery suggests that increased intake of this bacterium may help symptoms of gut disorders such as irritable bowel syndrome, inflammatory bowel disease, functional bowel disorders and constipation, says Federation of American Societies for Experimental Biology in a statement.
