An Emotional Day in College Football - Tim Tebow crying

It was an emotional day in the world of college football.  Florida’s #1 Gators failed to maintain the momentum needed to win the SEC championship, as well as to remain undefeated.

Scenes of Tim Tebow crying on the sidelines told the whole story; in the 4th quarter, Tebow threw a pass intended for tight end Aaron Hernandez. Javier Arenas intercepted the pass and in that moment, changed 2009 football history.

Tebow’s disappointment is justified; he’s had a stellar performance through his college career; he became the first sophomore to win the Heisman in 2007 and he’s managed to maintain a GPA of 3.77.  Although many believed he would win the trophy for a second time at the end of this season, Florida’s loss will make that unlikely.  The final score was 32-13; making the Crimson Tide the reigning SEC champions.

This was not the only time fans have seen their beloved Tebow crying; this season is his last, and for someone who’s put their heart and soul into the game, it’s the end of a significant era.  Last week Tebow became emotional with the realization that his run as a Gator quarterback is coming to an end.

Texas’ Narrow Victory over Nebraska

The Texas-Nebraska game was no less of a nail biter; antsy Texas fans had a few moments when they thought McCoy’s seeming reticence during the game was going to cost them the Big 12 championship..   His tentativeness notwithstanding, Texas beat No. 22 ranked Nebraska with a score of 13-12; certainly not a decisive win, but a win nonetheless.

While Colt McCoy may be slightly favored for the Heisman, it’s simply because Texas actually won; McCoy’s performance, per se, was certainly less than memorable and made his chances for winning the trophy more difficult.

After the game, Texas coach Mack Brown said it all:  “We’re excited about being Big 12 champs and we’ll see you in Pasadena.”
