Earlier, it was reported that Actor Dennis Hopper was losing his battle against prostate cancer.

Now Hopper, 73, has reportedly filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday for divorce from his wife of nearly 14 years.

The couple got married on April 12, 1996 and separated on Tuesday, news media reported, because of irreconcilable differences.

The legal proceeding was viewed as a sign of the trouble in the marital relationship between Dennis Hopper and his wife Victoria Hopper.

Hopper was diagnosed with prostate cancer in Oct. 2009 when he was admitted to hospital for treatment of severe, flu-like symptoms.

Doctors said the prostate cancer has now spread to his bones, making the disease incurable, meaning they could not do anything to save his life.

Hopper is seeking a joint custody of his daughter, Galen, who is now 6.

Prostate cancer is diagnosed in about 190,000 Americans each year; the disease kills about 30,000 annually in the U.S.
