Casey Johnson dies of diabetic complication

Casey Johnson, a daughter of the Jets' owner Woody Johnson, died of ketoacidosis, a complication of diabetes, media reports cited the coroner's office as saying in a statement.

Diabetic ketoacidosis is caused by high blood sugar, but no insulin in the blood. The condition often occurs in people with type 1 diabetes.

Johnson was found dead at her home Jan 4 and an autopsy was conducted the next day, but the autopsy report had not been released until lately.

Johnson had been known to have insulin-dependent or juvenile diabetes. 

People with juvenile diabetes also known as type 1 diabetes experience symptoms including fatigue, hunger, thirst, frequent urination, weight loss, blurred eyesight and loss of feeling or feeling tingling in the feet.

In addition, hypoglycemia can be a serious problem for people with type 1 diabetes.  The condition occurs when insulin is being used resulting in extremely low blood sugar in the blood.  Symptoms associated with this condition include headache, hunger, nervousness, rapid heartbeat, shaking, sweating, and weakness.
