Jane Fonda diagnosed with non-invasive breast cancer
Actress and fitness icon Jane Fonda was reportedly diagnosed with non-invasive breast cancer.
CBS cited Fonda as telling Entertainment Tonight (ET) that doctors found she had cancer a few weeks ago, after a small tumor was detected in her breast during a routine checkup.
According to a release from ET, the 72-year-old actress said the disease was non-invasive. She underwent surgery quickly to remove the tumorous mass and she is now cancer free.
The release says "Fonda wants all of her fans to know that she is 'fine' and is out promoting her newest fitness DVDs."
"Her new Primetime Fitness DVDs will hit stores on Nov. 30, while she will re-launch her Fonda Workout brand with a series of DVDs and workout equipment on Dec. 26."
It is observed that beautiful or physically more attractive women, meaning they have high levels of female sex hormone estrogen, which promotes cancer growth, are at higher risk of breast cancer.
Modified lifestyle including a diet with low amounts of animal-based foods like meat and dairy products may help reduce the risk of breast cancer.
Studies suggest that females eating animal-based foods are more likely to enter puberty early and have menopause late. As a result, they have much longer exposure to breast cancer-promoting estrogen.
Could Jane Fonda's case suggest that being physically fit or healthy does not mean zero risk of cancer?
