Certain areas of California have been warned of a possible tsunami triggered by the Chile 8.8 magnitude earthquake, sfgate.com reported citing an advisory by the National Weather Service.

The advisory says that the possible affected areas include Alameda, San Francisco, Santa Cruz, San Mateo, Marin, Monterey, Contra Costa, Napa, Sonoma, and Santa Clara counties.

The tsunami warning for California bay area is not as strong as the one for Hawaii. Still, the possibility of dangerous surges and currents in harbors and bays can not be excluded.
