Sunday June 14, 2008 (foodconsumer.org) -- Probiotic bacteria are known to have beneficial effects on human health and can help prevent and or treat different gastrointestinal disease and allergies.

A new study by researchers in Finland found that probiotic products may also have a beneficial impact on the immune system in healthy adults.

The study showed that probiotics reduced serum CRP levels and the production of pro-inflammatory cytokines in peripheral blood mononuclear cells.

The findings were reported on April 7, 2008, in the World Journal of Gastroenterology.
