The E. coli O157:H7 scare prompted Loblaw Cos. (L.T) Canada's largest grocer to recall two dozen of its President's Choice-branded beef products, Wall Street journal reports.

The recalled fresh beef products including steaks, oven roasts and ground beef sold in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada, have been already removed from store shelves, a company spokeswoman was cited as saying.

The current recall followed the expanded recall issued early by JBS S/A (JBSS3.BR).

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) issued a statement on July 2 to warn consumers not to eat the recalled products due to the contamination with E coli O157:H7.

CFIA said no illness was associated with the beef products.

E coli O157:H7 is a pathogenic strain that can produce toxins and cause diarrhea and dehydration. Although most people can recover from the illness without medical intervention, people who are very young, old or have weak immunity are at high risk of serious complications.
