P&G recalls canned cat foods in North America
The Procter & Gamble Company on June 9 issued a voluntary recall for specific lots o its Iams canned cat food in North America.
The recall is a precautionary measure as the product was found to have insufficient levels of thiamine or vitamin B.
Thiamine is sentential for cats. Cats fed a food without sufficient thiamine as their only food are at risk of developing a condition called thiamine deficiency.
Thiamine deficiency comes with signs including loss of appetite, salivation, vomiting and weight loss. In severe cases, cats can experience ventroflexion of the neck, wobbly gait, falling, circling and seizures.
The Iams canned fat foods subject to the recall are all varieties of 3 oz & 5.5 oz xcans of Iams ProActive Health canned Cat and Kitten Food with a date of 09/2011 to 06/2012 printed on the bottom of the cans.
The recall is only for Iams canned cat food in North America.
Consumers who have purchased the recalled product should discard it. If they have any questions, they may call P&G at 877-340-8826.
