A few undergrads at the University of Pennsylvania in 2003 started baking and selling the insomnia cookies on campus. They intended to replace heavy meals and greasy pizzas with their tasty cookies. The young students understand the needs of their fellow students and deliver what they need late night. Now the business have expanded to 18 universities.

The products offered at insomnia cookies are not just a few homemade cookies. They sell quite some varieties including cookies like chocolate chunk, peanut butter chip, oatmeal raisin, M/Ms, snicker doodle, coconut pecan,and others; brownies - fudge chocolate chunk brownies; beverages like soda can, lg coffee, sm coffee, mountain dew, bottled water; and frozen desserts like brownie A La mode, cookie A La Mode, cookiewich, etc.

The items available on each campus are not the same. At some universities, fewer types of cookies are available, while at other universities, more cookies and brownies are available. Insomnia cookies run franchises.
