Disease incidence prevention by serum 25(OH)D level this chart shows that raising status somewhat higher than 120nmol/l 48ng/ml may reduce the risk of other conditions.

Pregnant and nursing mothers should be made aware of the fact that the incidence of Type 1 Diabetes is reduced by 80% in those who remain vitamin D replete in the first year of life.

It should also be more widely known that human breast milk only flows replete with vitamin D3 when 25(OH)D is raised to around 60ng/ml 150nmol/l.
It's not just autoimmune conditions such as Type 1 diabetes that is prevented by adequate maternal vitamin D status. Gestational Diabetes is also associated with low 25(OH)D.

Vitamin D status controls brain development and so low maternal vitamin D status is associated with poor maternal and fetal outcomes.

This just adds to the ever growing data base on vitamin D. Take look at www.vitaminD3world.com for the data that led the Canadian Cancer Society to recommend everyone take vitamin D to prevent cancer.

My doctor recently told me that my D levels were the lowest he had ever seen in a patient. I was at a level 9 and he wants me to be at least a level 30-50 for Vit D.

I had some strange tingling sensations that mostly went away once I started supplementing 1000 units of Vit D a day.
