I don't understand how this article can support such an irresponsible position.

There is a wild leap of logic that just because a drug company makes money it must be irresponsible. How ridiculous.

The reference to the New York times article on Oct. 7 twists the point of the article and takes it completely out of context. The article in the Times was warning against people like you who can't seem to understand that for most people the benefit of a vaccine far outweigh the risks.

Am I the only one who sees this as foreshadowing to the results of our government's pending healthcare take over.

They are saying "Take this vaccine it is safe." After testing it for a few weeks, and at the same time saying, "You can't do anything for the damages you may suffer if this turns out to be bad for you either."

To Summerize: "We are the govornment we know whats best for you, don't ask questions or ask for restotution!"

Please someone save us from ourselves.

Whatever happened to getting the flu like a normal person without 11.5 billion (10 + 1.5 bil) in gov spending? Sounds to me like the government and drug companies are doing the scare mongering over a flu that so far as hurt fewer people globally than the regular annual flu kills by itself in the US alone.

Seriously? Wow, what a piece of propaganda. The H1N1 vaccines are prepared EXACTLY the same way as seasonal flu vaccines. The FDA has extremely strict regulations and guidelines as to how the vaccine can be manufactured, administered, and sold.

You people are crazy. Seriously. If you don't want to get the vaccine, go for it. I've already gotten my seasonal flu shot as I do every year, and will get the H1N1 vaccine as soon as it's available to the average citizen. Oh, and guess what? My health insurance even pays for it. Imagine that.

To scare people away from getting the vaccine is outrageous and you should be ashamed of yourselves. To use the fact that pharmaceutical companies are making money off the vaccine as a reason not to get it is criminal.

I agree with this article. I have no idea why any person(s) would say yes to a flu shot that has the same content of the last swine flu vaccine, tha tkilled many people in the past I might add. We as a nation are highly over vaccinating and it will bite us in the end. We need to stand up now before it is too late. Our bodies are designed by nature to deal with all the things we are inoculated against, except for the man made ones, all we need to do is lead a healthy lifestyle and make sanitation a priority. It is just like having a fever.... Everyone hurries to get rid of it when they have it no matter how high it is. In reallity we should manage the fever and keep it from getting too high (106 and above). A fever is a natural defense, yet we throw drugs at it to stop it, why??? Because our doctor tells us to... makes no sense. Bottom line is that everyone needs to get a lot more educated and make informed decisions. I for one do not beleive in immunizations, if all you nay sayers actually did the research on statistics and what is actually in the vaccines, you would probably agree that they are not needed.

Yes Zach nutritious food and water does help fight the flu. A healthy immune system needs fresh fruits and vegetables, plenty of water, uninterrupted nervous information, to function at its fullest. Any "food" that comes out of a box is NOT FOOD. Processed food is what is responsible for weakening the immune system.

Millions died from smallpox before vaccines. The same is true for flu (the 1918 epidemic killed more people than WWI) and scarlet fever and measles and polio and many more. Look at the old cemeteries. Before vaccines, it was common for a family to lose at least one of its children before age 6.
Are vaccines completely safe? No, neither is crossing the street or getting out of bed.

Influenza is more dangerous than the vaccines. What if someone dies because they (or their mommy) listened to you, maybe they will sue you.

To the people knocking this article, I'm glad you've drank the Kool-aid. That's nice. But when you are dealing with a morally bankrupt industry who has our corrupt gov in their back pockets I don't think it's irresponsible to questions the situation.

I honestly can't believe Dr. Mercola is as misleading as he is about vaccines, and this one in particular - it is so disappointing. I have not "drunk any Koolaid", but I have seen first-hand previously healthy women and children now dying or awaiting lung transplant after being infected with H1N1. Of course, many get better after mild disease, but the risk of serious, tragic disease is not theoretic - it's actual and out there at every hospital in over 40 states. Medical choices are always about weighing your risks and benefits on either side - no choice is perfect. I wish that we had had years of testing of the H1N1 vaccine too, but the testing that has occurred so far looks good, and the disease does not. Obviously Dr. Mercola has not taken the time to visit any local hospitals/medical centers and check out the patients in the intensive care units - many of these patients wish they had had a vaccine before being hit with H1N1, and after seeing a few deaths you can easily see that his position is irresponsible, misleading, manipulative, and uneducated, regardless of your stance on natural medicine. I hope he doesn't have to go through what some of these other families are suffering, but I still wish he wouldn't use his name and reputation to manipulate others.

It's more than a little ironic that those people who claim science is behind vaccines are basing their opinions on nothing more than what TV, Movies, Public Schools and pharmaceutical companies tell them.
Those of us who actually research the issues ourselves discover the ineffectiveness of all vaccines as well as the unscientific garbage theory that all vaccines are based on. We are also aware of the WHO and CDC statistics which prove vaccines do not in any way prevent disease or the spread there of and in fact cause disease.
To listen to some Oprah watching ignoramus who has never attempted even the slightest research, tell those of us who have, how irresponsible we are would be laughable if it weren't so damn pathetic.

There has been so much emphasis on the possible dangers of the H1N1 flu vaccine that the very deal dangers of the H1N1 virus are being ignored. This is the current assessment of the risks of H1N1:

"Although it remains unclear how frequently the virus makes people seriously ill, recent reports from Mexico, Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand indicate that perhaps 1 percent of patients who get infected require hospitalization. Between 12 to 30 percent of those hospitalized need intensive care, and 15 to 40 percent of those in intensive care die."

You should also know that H1N1 is NOT the same as the seasonl flu:

"The virus can cause life-threatening viral pneumonia much more commonly than the typical flu, prompting the World Health Organization on Friday to warn hospitals to prepare for a possible wave of very sick patients and to urge doctors to treat suspected cases quickly with antiviral drugs."

"Although why a minority of patients become so sick remains a mystery, new research indicates that H1N1 is different from typical seasonal flu viruses in crucial ways -- most notably in its ability to penetrate deep into the lungs and cause viral pneumonia."

"It's not like seasonal influenza," Nikki Shindo of the World Health Organization said at the conclusion of a three-day meeting of more than 100 experts the WHO convened in Washington to review swine flu. "It can cause very severe disease in previously healthy young adults."

Given that information, I'd say the 1 in a million chance of contracting Guillan-Barre from the vaccine sounds like the preferrable risk. Do you know that you can contract Guillan-Barr as a result of having an infection such as influenza or bacterial food poisoning, especially from campylobacter found in chicken? Every time you eat chicken, there's a chance it may have been undercooked, putting you at risk for a campylobacteria infection and possibly GBS. Does Dr. Mercola recommend you never eat a piece of chicken again? Get some perspective!

The problem with vaccines is not the vaccines themselves but the manufacturing processes.

Take a hint from the recent Tylenol fiasco:

The vaccines in and of themselves are safe it is the manufacturing processes that are wacked.

Ask any doc if a vaccine is safe and they will say yes (and they are probably right) ask that same doc if he or she has ever been to the manufacturing facility where the drug is made (not the lab but the actual factory) and they will probably say never.

Anyone who attacks the basic science of vaccines will probably loose. However, taking a look at the manufacturing processes of those vaccines is a different matter.

I don't think that the concept of vaccination is a problem.

I do believe that we need to create on demand vaccine creation technology so we can eliminate the preservatives that are probably the cause of so many vaccine reactions.

Also we will probably find in the future that only certain genome types are extremely sensitive to these chemicals and have an increased risk of adverse reaction to them.
