Secondly breast milk DOES contain vitamin d but only if the mother has high enough levels in her blood.  It is so valuable that unless the mother has enough she will not give it away.  All mammals that have fur (that is almost all) take there vitamin orally.  The sun does not reach their skin so the vitamin d is formed on their fur which is then ingested by licking.</description>

The safest is probably one that matches closely the sun spectrum in a European summer.&lt;br /&gt;

Also it is important NOT to wash before or after sun exposure (although how long is not certain). Washing before removes the precursor of vitamin d from the skin. Afterwards washes of the vitamin d before it passes back through the skin.</description>

Vitamin d2 is natural. However, it is not the form the mammalian body evolved to use. That is d3, they are chemically different.  D2 appears to be as effective in preventing rickets, what is not known is if it is as effective say as part of the immune system.&lt;br /&gt;
&lt;br /&gt;
D3 in supplements is made the same way that the body makes it.  The  7-dehydrocholesterol (in this case washed from wool) is irradiated with UVB to form the vitamin d3. This is an inert form which is then converted into the storage form 25(OH)D3 in the body.</description>
