Kim and colleagues of Korea University found green tea extract reduced the proliferation, collagen deposition, and type 1 collagen expression in a rat hepatic stellate cell line, ameliorating hepatic fibrosis. The researchers also found administration of green tea extract prevented the development of hepatic fibrosis in the rat model of dimethylnitrosamine induced liver fibrosis. Kim and colleagues said in their study report that green tea "may be used as a therapeutic option and preventive measure against hepatic fibrosis."
