Quite a bold, unsubstantiated tag line to conclude this artcle: "The good news is that breast cancer is in many cases preventable."
Why, then, do we lose 50,000 of our moms, grandmas, sisters, aunts and friends to this every year? And please let us in on what exactly deters breast cancer.

well not sure it's preventable but there are a lot of measures you can take to help ward off cancer. www.diet-myths.com says tea can help fight off cancer, and exercise always helps. I guess leading a healthy lifestyle and getting frequent check ups is "preventing" breast cancer as well as we can.

There is sufficient research to show that a lack of Vitamin D can lead to increased chances of cancer. There is also research that shows that surplus Vitamin D works to prevent cancer because many types of breast cancer cells have vitamin D receptors (VDRs) and if there is excess vitamin D avalable it will go to the VDR and basicly kill the cancer. Please see http://www.suite101.com/content/vitamin-d-supplement-for-better-health-a289009
for more information.

Breast cancer is a consequence, not a disease. Environmental estrogen like chemicals, a diet high in sugar/refined grains/adulterated meat, and deficiencies in vitamin D,selenium and iodine, ionizing radiation from mammograms and synthetic hormones from birth control pills and hormone replacement are the root causes. In countries where these factors are absent, there is little or no breast cancer. If those women move to the U.S.,they become obese and get breast cancer. After 25 years, pink stinks and has not reduced breast cancer deaths.

It is preventable- we simply eat a diet our bodies were never designed to process. Sugary pastry for breakfast, fast food for lunch, and pizza or takeout for dinner provide very few of the antioxidants from vegetables and fruit or the fatty acids from nuts, seeds, leafy greens, or fish that the body needs to repair itself. So mutations happen without repair, mutant cells multiply without apoptosis, and the body's defenses are weak.We lose too many women because they were taught that eating out all the time and using "food products" instead of cooking with the nutritional good sense of their forebears would bring good health from "science" and fortification. This was very wrong. We were designed to eat food, not food products, and to need to take the time to pick it fresh, cook it healthfully, and eat with people we love. Other cultures with these traditions intact (including Mediterranean and Asian) have much better health than we do. Look up the Mediterranean/Asian diet on Pubmed if you think these claims are unsubstantiated. Or the North Karelia project if you think it cannot be changed.

Absolutely right! When you look closely all the healthy nutrition and ingredients in their food, you see why they are so healthy and live long. Love Mediterranean food! :)
