- Description: A mouse study found the mineral supplement Basepulver, given daily by oral gavage, significantly slowed melanoma growth, with 8 g/l the best dose, and cell culture work showed dose-dependent inhibition of human and mouse melanoma cells. The rationale is that tumour acidity aids cancer growth.

Thursday Aug 18, 2016 (foodconsumer.org) -- Testimonials circulated on the Internet indicate some patients used sodium bicarbonate to treat their cancers. The rationale is, cancer generates lactic acid and lowers the pH of body fluids and acidic microenvironment in turn promotes cancer growth. In severe cases, [cancer patients might even suffer clinical acidosis and have had cancer metastasized to the liver](http://www.amjmedsci.com/article/S0002-9629%2815%2941931-7/abstract?ref=foodconsumer.org).

Studies have showed that extracellular lactic acidosis or acidity promotes cancer growth and progression. And neutralization of the acid with any base or alkalizer like sodium bicarbonate could potentially help [suppress cancer growth](http://www.omicsonline.org/open-access/systemic-buffers-in-cancer-therapy-the-example-of-sodium-bicarbonatestupid-idea-or-wise-remedy-2161-0444-1000314.php?aid=65744&ref=foodconsumer.org).

A new [study ](http://journals.plos.org/plosone/article?id=10.1371/journal.pone.0159763&ref=foodconsumer.org)conducted in mice confirmed that using an alkalizer can suppress the growth of melanoma. For the study, an alkalizer called Basepulver® was administered daily by oral gavage in mice that received melanoma cancer cell implantation one week earlier.

During the study period, the size of tumors and their acidity were measured and urinary pH was also monitored for potential metabolic alkalosis. (Alkalosis can be harmful too)

As a result, the alkalizer significantly reduced melanoma growth in the animals and the optional dose was found at 8 g/l. In vitro experiments also showed that the alkalizer inhibited tumor cell growth in a dose-responsive manner in both human and murine melanoma cell cultures.

According to basepulver.net, [Basepulver](http://www.basenpulver.net/?lang=en&ref=foodconsumer.org)® is a mix of essential mineral nutrients including magnesium, calcium, potassium and phosphus as well as selenium. This is a supplement intended to balance mineral nutrients in the body. For one thing, the supplement is to alkalize body fluids such as the blood, urine and saliva.

Alkalization of body fluids is very important to prevent and treat diseases including various forms of cancer. One alkalizer people commonly use is sodium bicarbonate or baking soda. Many cases reported on the Internet indicate that sodium bicarbonate helps treat cancer. (David Liu)
