In the aftermath of a rave held south of San Francisco (Daly City) in May, the Centers for Disease Control has announced that 1 person died and another 18 people were hospitalized after attending a New Year’s Eve rave in Los Angeles.

The event has been an annual gathering since 1998 and takes place at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. The 24 year old who died appeared to have suffered from “multiple drug intoxication.” In addition to taking Ecstasy and Cocaine at the Arena, the young man also injected himself with heroin after the event was over (Los Angeles Times).

Those who were hospitalized had also taken large doses of Ecstasy, along with a cocktail of other drugs, the CDC claims.

Authorities in San Francisco warned attendees of the Daly City Rave that took place over the Memorial weekend to seek medical attention if they suffered from drowsiness or high fever. In a statement, the police said they suspected that Ecstasy from the event was “tainted with an unknown toxic substance (New York Times).”

70 people were arrested at the Daly City event by undercover officers on drug charges, which stemmed mostly from the sale of Ecstasy. Some authorities are outraged that both events were held at publicly owned venues.
