- Description: Rats exposed to simulated 900 MHz cell phone radiation four hours a day for 12 days suffered oxidative liver injury. Two ginseng preparations protected against it, raising superoxide dismutase and glutathione while lowering malonic dialdehyde and Nrf2 protein expression.

Cell phone radiation at 900 MHz affects the expression of Nrf2 protein, induce oxidative injury leading to abnormal morphology of liver cells, according to a Chinese study. Nrf2 protein is a key component in the antioxidant system.

In the study, rats were exposed to imitated 900 MHz cellular phone for 4 hours a day for 12 consecutive days. Two types of ginseng, American Ginseng Capsules and Shuifei Jibin Capsules were tested.

It was found that both ginseng preparations protect against the oxidative damage to liver cells induced by cell phone radiation. Both increase superoxide dismutase and glutathione and decrease expression of malonic dialdehyde and Nrf2 protein.
