- Description: Rats exposed to a cell phone's electromagnetic field for 15 to 60 minutes a day for two weeks showed enlarged seminiferous tubules, interrupted sperm cycles and markers of oxidative stress. Vitamin C or E added to their diet eased that stress and helped restore the testes.

Friday Aug 17, 2012 ([foodconsumer.org](http://www.foodconsumer.org/)) -- Using conventional cell phones could damage testes in which a man produces sperm and vitamin C and E may help mitigate the damaging effect, according to a study published in the July 2012 issue of Clinics.

The study led by M.A. Al-Damegh of College of Science and Arts, Qassim University in Saudi Arabia showed that rats exposed to an electromagnetic field of a cell phone had a significant increase in the diameter of the seminiferous tubules with a disorganized seminiferous tubule sperm cycle interruption.

In the study, rats exposed to an electromagnetic field from a cell phone for 15, 30, and 60 min every day for two weeks.

The study also found "The serum and testicular tissue conjugated diene, lipid hydroperoxide, and catalase activities increased 3-fold, whereas the total serum and testicular tissue glutathione and glutathione peroxidase levels decreased 3-5 fold in the electromagnetism-exposed animals."

The researcher also exposed rats to an electromagnetic field of a cell phone and supplemented rats' diet with vitamin C in a dose of 40 mg/kg/day or vitamin E in the dose of 2.7 mg/kg/day and found these two vitamins mitigated the oxidative stress imposed by the electromagnetic field on the testes and helped restore the testes to normality.
