A study in Journal of Cellular Biochemistry found evidence to suggest that cocoa powder renders a neuroprotective and preventive effect against Alzheimer's disease. The [study ](http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1002/jcb.24548/abstract?ref=foodconsumer.org)led by Antonio Giordano from Temple University, Philadelphia, PA and colleagues shows that cocoa polyphenols trigger neuroprotection against Alzheimer's disease by activating BDNF survival pathway. An estimated 5 million Americans live with Alzheimer's disease, which has no cure and eventually completely disable and kill the patients. (reporting by Jimmy Downs)
