Monday Nov 23, 2015 (foodconsumer.org) -- If you want to reduce your risk of dying from prostate cancer, you may be better off not eating dairy foods or drinking milk. A new study suggests that eating too much dairy or drinking too much milk can significantly increase the death risk from the disease.

The study showed that patients with prostate cancer consuming three or more servings of dairy foods per day were 76% more likely to die from all causes and 141% more likely to die from prostate cancer, compared to those patients who had less than one serving per day.

The increase in the risk of death was higher among those eating high fat dairy, compared to those eating low fat dairy products.

The study was based on data from 926 men with non-metastatic prostate cancer enrolled in the Physicians’ Health Study.

The study did not prove that eating dairy is the cause for increased risk of dying from all causes and prostate cancer even though the possibility could not be excluded either.
