The [Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA)](http://www.ada.gov/?ref=foodconsumer.org) gives civil rights protections to individuals with disabilities. It guarantees equal opportunity for individuals with disabilities in public accommodations, employment, transportation, state and local government services, and telecommunications. The ADA also mandates the establishment of TDD/telephone relay services.

The [U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ)](http://answers.usa.gov/cgi-bin/gsa%5Fict.cfg/php/enduser/std%5Fadp.php?p%5Ffaqid=7913&p%5Fsid=abVm2B5k&p%5Flva=211&ref=foodconsumer.org) provides information about the ADA through a toll-free information line. This service permits businesses, state and local governments, and individuals to call and ask questions about general or specific ADA requirements including questions about the [ADA Standards for Accessible Design](http://www.ada.gov/stdspdf.htm?ref=foodconsumer.org).

Specialists are available to provide ADA information and answers to technical questions on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Friday from 10:30 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. ET, or on Thursday from 12:30 p.m. until 4:30 p.m. ET. You can obtain ADA information by phone or mail at:
