We’ve known for decades that limiting alcohol consumption, sun exposure and tobacco use can reduce the risk of cancer.

And thanks to supporters like you, EWG has worked to highlight how to practice sun safety and avoid known chemical carcinogens in the environment.

**But what if our thinking about how chemicals cause cancer is incomplete?**

A group of scientists comprising the Halifax Project suggests just that. Their groundbreaking study contends that **the combined effects of chemicals that are *not* thought to be carcinogenic on their own may be a significant cause of cancer.**

Given the tens of thousands of chemicals to which Americans are exposed daily, **the implications of the Halifax Project are cause for serious concern.**

**EWG is launching a new Cancer Prevention Initiative to convene the greatest minds in the field and to put prevention at the forefront of the national conversation about cancer.**

We need your help to launch this program, so we’ve set an ambitious goal: $100,000 before August 14\. **This is so important that an anonymous donor has pledged to match your donation dollar for dollar.**

If you care about your family’s health, there’s no better investment than making sure EWG launches this new initiative. Please, make a donation today – your gift will go twice as far!

More than one in three Americans will be diagnosed with cancer in his or her lifetime, yet nearly HALF of all cancers are preventable.

So why isn’t the national conversation about cancer focusing on prevention? That is a serious flaw in the nation’s priorities, especially when you consider costs of cancer treatment in 2012 alone were $87 BILLION. Not to mention the enormous physical and emotional toll of this terrible disease.

The environment plays a key role in Americans’ risk of developing cancer and, according to the Halifax Project, that risk may be far greater than previously thought.

**EWG’s new Cancer Prevention Initiative seeks to make prevention a public health priority, but we can do that only with your help.**

Will you contribute today to help launch EWG’s Cancer Prevention Initiative? Thanks to an anonymous donor, your gift will be doubled. Donate today.
