Dear Reacers,

**Did you know that skin cancer is the most common form of cancer in the United States?** More than 2 million Americans develop skin cancer each year. The rate of new melanoma cases, the deadliest form of skin cancer, has tripled among Americans over the last 35 years.

**It’s time for a wake-up call about sun safety.** That’s why EWG has partnered with leading dermatologists and nearly 20 sunscreen makers to launch our Sun Safety campaign, designed to raise public awareness about the dangers of sun exposure and provide practical guidelines for everyday sun safety.

Fewer than one in three adults report using sunscreen frequently and even fewer Americans report frequently taking other measures to avoid sun exposure, such as seeking shade, or wearing a hat or covering up with long sleeves.

Here’s the bottom line: **Americans don’t do enough to protect their skin from sun damage and to prevent skin cancer.** It’s time to bring sun safety to the top of public consciousness. Other countries, such as Australia, have made sun protection as routine as wearing a seat belt. It’s time for the U.S. to do the same.

At EWG’s Sun Safety website, you’ll find resources such as:

I hope you’ll take the time to share these resources with your friends and family. With summer just around the corner, Americans cannot afford to ignore the dangers of skin damage.

Here’s to practicing smart sun,
