# My Greatest Fear.

Dear Organic Consumer,

Every year this time I look at the state of America's food, farming and climate. Then I look for inspiration as I reach out to ask you to support our work.

This year, my inspiration is you.

Against impossible odds, you stood with us this year against some of the most powerful and corrupt companies in the world. Together we fought Monsanto, DuPont, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola and other corporations for the simple right to a label on food containing genetically modified organisms (GMOs).

We raised money. We raised consciousness. We raised hell.

We may not have won the GMO labeling battle in California, though a recount could challenge the narrow 49%-51% loss. But in 2012, thanks to you and millions of consumers, we accomplished what we hadn't been able to accomplish until now: We made GMO labeling a mainstream, public health issue.

We couldn't have done any of this without you. **My greatest fear now is that the momentum we built, over more than a decade and which culminated with the Nov. 6 election, will come crashing down.**

Unless we come back stronger and more fiercely determined in 2013\.

[**Please help us raise $200,000 by December 31, so we can pass GMO labeling and other truth-and-transparency laws in 2013\. You can make your tax-deductible donation online here. Or use the information on our donation form to mail a check, or donate by phone.**](http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=2ZMdZsFO7dWRt97Lh6bcjU9Nbfv305Di&ref=foodconsumer.org)

Despite a $46-million barrage of lies and dirty tricks from the opposition, more than 6 million Californians voted Yes on 37, the California Right to Know Genetically Engineered Food Act. This one state labeling battle made national and international headlines. It turned GMOs into a household word. It brought together people from all backgrounds, religions, ages and political affiliations around the basic right to know what's in our food.

You made all of this possible.

**But Prop 37 was just the beginning. We have so much more work to do.**

We're already working on GMO labeling laws in Washington State (I-522) and Vermont. We're working with lawyers to craft model GMO labeling legislation for more than 30 other states.

We're also preparing to launch a campaign to let people know about the horrors and health hazards of Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations (CAFOs), or factory farms: **With your help, 2013 will be the year we demand labels on meat and dairy products from animals fed GMO feed, pumped full of artificial growth hormones, and injected with antibiotics to help them survive their short and hellish lives.**

There is nothing more fundamental to human health than healthful food. Over the past couple of decades profit-driven corporations, aided by indentured politicians, have corrupted our food supply and conspired to keep us in the dark about just how corrupt so much of our food is.

I believe the tide is turning. But our movement is still vulnerable. Will next year be the year we reach the tipping point? Or the year we stall or lose ground? It's up to you.

[**Please consider making a generous tax-deductible donation by December 31, so we can pass GMO labeling and other truth-and-transparency laws in 2013.**](http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=cEQoLjVmCjmLxRXGIga96U9Nbfv305Di&ref=foodconsumer.org)

Thank you!
