Dear Readers,

I know you don't want potentially toxic chemicals in the products you use every day. Thankfully, after decades of inaction, we are starting to see signs of progress.

Last week, the Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works stood up for protecting public health and making chemicals kid-safe by passing the Safe Chemicals Act out of committee.

**This vote was an important first step in fixing our nation's broken chemical policy.**

The Safe Chemicals Act of 2011 would require the industry to test its products and prove they are safe. This would be a long overdue reform of the weak and outdated 1976 Toxic Substances Control Act, the only major U.S. environmental law that has never been modernized. Since Congress enacted it 36 years ago, tens of thousands of new chemicals have come onto the marketplace with little or no safety testing.

EWG Action Fund will be redoubling our efforts to keep the momentum up, for you and your families.

We still have a long way to go, but together we can fix this broken policy.

Sincerely,

Ken Cook
President, EWG Action Fund
