- Description: A high-fat diet promoted tumor growth in two mouse models of K-ras-driven lung cancer, according to work presented at an AACR meeting. The researchers speculate the diet acts by raising systemic IGF-1; K-ras mutations appear in about 25 percent of human lung cancer cases.

A new study released in Cancer Research suggests that eating a high-fat diet may increase risk of lung cancer. The study shows that a high fat diet promoted tumorigenesis in two mouse models of lung cancer with K-ras mutations ,which were identified in about 25% cases of lung cancer. Researchers speculate that high fat diet promotes lung cancer by increasing systemic IGF-1, which is known to promote cancer growth.
