Eating Mediterranean diet may lower risk of hip fractures in postmenopausal women, a study published in JAMA Internal Medicine suggests. The study found those who ate a Mediterranean diet were 20% less likely to suffer hip fractures, compared to those who did not follow the diet. The Mediterranean diet uses mostly plant-based foods including fruit/vegetables, whole grains, legumes and nuts, and healthy oils like olive oil. The Mediterranean diet followers may also use small amounts of meat and fish. (David Liu)*Bernhard Haring, MD, MPH; Carolyn J. Crandall, MD, MS; Chunyuan Wu, MS; Erin S. LeBlanc, MD, MPH; James M.
