Monday Aug 11, 2014 (foodconsumer.org) -- A new study suggests that taking multivitamin/mineral supplements for a couple of months can improve chronic fatigue syndrome.

Multivitamin/mineral supplements were tested in the study to see if the supplementation could help chronic fatigue syndrome because researchers believe that oxidative stress as one of many factors may affect the medical condition.

The study shows that women with chronic fatigues syndrome who took multivitamin/mineral supplements for 2 months had significantly higher levels of superoxide dismutase - an antioxidant enzyme, reduced fatigue, sleep disorders, autonomic nervous system symptoms, and frequency and intensity of headaches.

The study led by scientists at University of Novi Sad in Novi Sad, Serbia and colleagues involved 38 women of reproductive age who were diagnosed with chronic fatigue syndrome.

The study concluded "Treatment with a vitamin and mineral supplement could be a safe and easy way to improve symptoms and quality of life in patients with CFS (chronic fatigue syndrome)."

Comment: Some other supplements such as royal jelly and Korean red ginseng may also be effective at fighting fatigue. (David Liu)
