Patriot Day honors the victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks, and pays tribute to the emergency personnel and ordinary citizens who risked their lives during and after the attacks.

**Patriot Day**

September 11, 2001, was a defining moment in American history. On September 11, 2001, our nation was attacked and many innocent people died. By a joint resolution approved December 18, 2001, the [United States Congress](http://answers.usa.gov/cgi-bin/gsa%5Fict.cfg/php/enduser/std%5Fadp.php?p%5Ffaqid=1399&p%5Fsid=R2dbhy9k&p%5Flva=7324&ref=foodconsumer.org) designated September 11 of each year as[Patriot Day](http://www.whitehouse.gov/the%5Fpress%5Foffice/Presidential-Proclamation-Patriot-Day-and-National-Day-of-Remembrance-and-Service/?ref=foodconsumer.org). On Patriot Day, we remember the innocent victims, and pay tribute to the firefighters, police officers, emergency personnel, and ordinary citizens who risked their lives so others might live.

**World Trade Center (WTC) Memorial**

**Flight 93 National Memorial**
