Dear Readers,

What are junk food lobbyists trying to do to our kids?

**We are facing a national epidemic of childhood obesity,** and as many as one in three children are at risk for life-threatening, often preventable diseases like diabetes and heart disease. Yet members of Congress and lobbyists are fighting to allow more sugar and junk in our kids’ school lunches?! Not okay.

The U.S. House of Representatives could vote as soon as this week on an agriculture appropriations bill that would loosen school nutrition standards and put corporate profits ahead of our children’s health. **School meals would not have to include fruits and vegetables – even as little as a half-cup serving.**

We cannot let that happen. EWG – and American children – urgently need you to take action today in support of healthy school lunches.

Kids may consume as many as half of their meals in school. For many of the 15.9 million hungry children in this country, these may be the only nutritious meals they get all day. **Rolling back nutrition standards is the last thing we should be doing.**

It is plain wrong to use the appropriations process to weaken child nutrition programs. Yet lobbyists representing companies that sell pizza and french fries think they can buy the votes to protect their special interests. Let’s show them our voices are louder.

**This isn’t about politics. It’s about our kids. Tell your member of Congress to protect school lunch standards right now! The House could vote in the next few days.**

Thank you for standing up for our kids.

Sincerely,

Ken Cook
