## URGENT: Senate Introduces Bill to Block Vermont's GMO Labeling Law!

Hoping we wouldn't notice, Sen. Pat Roberts (R-Kan.) waited until the end of the day today to introduce a [bill ](http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=JmyuTEW95%2B0qjEjR3%2FLDHIZwg0vSQ8ec&ref=foodconsumer.org)in the U.S. Senate that would preempt Vermont’s and other states’ mandatory GMO labeling laws, and replace them with a*voluntary* federal labeling standard.

If this bill makes it through the Senate, Vermont's bill will die, but nothing else will change—food companies will not be required to disclose GMO ingredients. *Ever.*

[**URGENT: Contact your Senators today. Ask them to reject Sen. Roberts' bill that would permanently let food companies off the hook for labeling GMOs!**](http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=Pc7oKSfHFS%2BjII%2FqVVbnWIZwg0vSQ8ec&ref=foodconsumer.org)

**After you contact your Senator, please consider a donation to the Organic Consumers Fund. Donations to this fund will be used to prevent the Senate from passing this anti-consumer, anti-states' rights bill.** [**You can donate online, or by phone or U.S. mail,** ](http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=teWfA0qKoTv3hog2fs9NUYZwg0vSQ8ec&ref=foodconsumer.org)[**details here.**](http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=8QY%2BVKbY5WgHdypjH9cyWYZwg0vSQ8ec&ref=foodconsumer.org)

Roberts' bill, introduced on behalf of Monsanto and the Grocery Manufacturers Association, is just another example of U.S. politicians doing the bidding of Monsanto and giant food corporation.

States have historically had the right to pass their own food safety and labeling laws. And according to this [legal analysis](http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=LiDsXU9KK1V5By8k3SqR9YZwg0vSQ8ec&ref=foodconsumer.org) of states’ rights to pass GMO labeling laws, Vermont has a constitutional right to enact its GMO labeling law on schedule, on July 1.

Don't let corporate greed and corrupt politics steal your victory in Vermont!
