[Taro](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taro?ref=foodconsumer.org) is a plant that has the looks of a sweet potato and a sweet taste like vanilla. Now, by popular request from guests, the eclectic delicacy has turned fro-yo with [16 Handles](http://16handles.com/?ref=foodconsumer.org)’ newest flavor, "Sweet Taro Pie," debuting on **Friday, April 1st**.

16 Handles CEO Solomon Choi says:

“Guests have been requesting a taro flavor for years and we are thrilled to fill that request. This unique flavor is sure to delight those who already know and love taro and those who have never tried it before as well.”

And it’ll be hard to top these original Sweet Taro Pie combos by 16 Handles, but challenges are always accepted:

· **Purple Mooncakes** – coconut flakes, mochi & whipped cream

· **Rootin’ for Berries** – strawberries, blueberries & almonds

· **Down to Earth** – granola, graham cracker crumbs & honey

And taro has some interesting roots:

· Taro roots can be used as alternatives to potatoes.

· Taro was once suggested to have healing powers.

· Taro is one of the finest sources of dietary fibers, as well as protein and calcium.

· More than 300 varieties of taro root were previously grown in Hawaii.
