- Description: A Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry report says high intake and high serum levels of tocotrienols, but not ordinary tocopherols, have been consistently linked to lower Alzheimer's incidence, and points to their clearance of FPP and GGPP and their anti-inflammatory activity.

Wednesday Feb 17, 2016 (foodconsumer.org) -- The medical circle has claimed that Alzheimer's disease has no cure. But a new report in the Journal of Nutritional Biochemistry suggests that at least taking a new vitamin E supplement or eating plant foods high in tocotrienols could help prevent Alzheimer's disease or slow cognitive decline.

The report says that high intake and high serum levels of tocotrienols, but not ordinary vitamin E compounds called tocopherols, as found in early studies, were consistently found associated with low incidence of Alzheimer disease.

According to the report, tocotrienols, which are not publicized, can eliminate serum mevalonate-derived farnesyl pyrophosphate (FPP) and geranylgeranyl pyrophosphate (GGPP), which at high levels are related to the development of Alzheimer’s disease.

Additionally, tocotrienols and its metabolites poccess anti-inflammatory activities that protect against the formation of Alzheimer's disease. (David Liu)
