- Description: An Environmental Working Group appeal urging readers to write Congress before Wednesday's Super Committee deadline, charging that Agriculture Committee leaders drafted the next farm bill in secret to win subsidies for large commodity farms at the expense of nutrition and organic programs.

Dear Readers,

**We were afraid of this, and now it's for real.** Right now, Big Agriculture's lobbyists - with help from compliant politicians - are trying to get large government handouts for corporate mega-farms.

**We have to stop it - before the Congressional Super Committee's deadline Wednesday.**

For weeks, Ag Committees' leaders have been covertly writing the next federal farm bill, hoping to slip it into law through the top-secret Super Committee process.

**No hearings. No debate. No chance to make changes of any kind to fix America's broken food system. Just billions in taxpayer-paid handouts for fat-cat corporate mega-farms.**

EWG is leading the fight against this travesty that will continue to pour money into industrial commodity farms that are already seeing record profits, and shortchange healthy, organic food, clean water and wildlife.

**Time is running out.** The deadline is Wednesday. Congress must hear from you. Tell them to throw out this cynical ploy by the subsidy lobby to subvert reform - and democracy.

[**Click here to tell the Super Committee and Congressional leadership to say "NO!" to the Secret Farm Bill. There are only a few days to turn the tide, and we need your rapid response!**](http://action.ewg.org/salsa/track.jsp?v=2&c=09%2FL%2F9aDC8Ovo9XwuhJ4gImqWPBnx0s8&ref=foodconsumer.org)

The Super Committee has a big, important job to do: balance the federal budget.

**But the biggest agribusiness operations are trying to hijack the process in order to grab new government handouts - on top of their record profits!**

These new giveaways come at the expense of critical healthy food programs, especially ones aimed at kids. Dollars wasted on bloated subsidy payments will not be available to grow more organic food and protect vital nutrition programs for unemployed and low-income Americans.

**Everyone who eats has a stake in the outcome.** If you want healthy food for your family at reasonable prices, we need you to step up right this minute.

**Thankfully, it's not a done deal yet - not for another few days.** The Super Committee members need to hear from you that you want them to reject big new handouts for Big Ag once and for all. This is no time to hesitate; take action today.
