Saturday Dec 15, 2012 (foodconsumer.org) -- Some may believe triple negative breast cancer is more dangerous than other types of breast cancer. But a study suggests that that is not the case, at least triple negative early stage breast cancer is no more dangerous than other types.

J. Y. Kim from Department of Radiation Oncology, CHA Bundang Medical Center, CHA University in Seongnam, Korea and colleagues published their study in Radiation Oncology to demonstrate that triple negative early stage breast cancer posed a similar death risk as other types of breast cancer.

The researchers analyzed data from 446 breast cancer patients with 21% diagnosed as triple negative, 12.8% HER-2 type, 66.1% as luminal. Patients were followed on average for 78 months and 33 deaths and 40 distant metastases were identified.

The researchers did not find any difference in all types of survival between triple negative and other types of breast cancer.

Breast cancer is largely preventable. There are many things women can do or not do to prevent the disease.
