Prostate cancer does not seem as dangerous as pancreatic cancer, but is still expected to kill 26,120 men in 2016 in the U.S. alone, according to the American Cancer Society. One simple preventative men can use to avoid this disease is a vegan diet, a study suggests.

The study released recently in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition shows that men eating a vegan diet were 35% less likely to develop prostate cancer, compared to men following a non-vegan diet. The preventative effect was more significant in white men than black men.

The data used for the study came from 26,346 men enrolled in the Adventist Health Study - II. For the study, dietary patterns considered in the study included nonvegetarian, lacto-ovo-vegetarian, pesco-vegetarian, vegan, and semi-vegetarian diets.

Vegan diet can be safe and easy to follow. It can provide all sorts of nutrients humans need. The only thing a vegan needs to do is take vitamin b12 to make sure he has sufficient intake of it. The risk for vitamin B12 deficiency can be higher among vegans than meat eaters. (David Liu)
