Researchers at Tongji University School of Medicine in Shanghai, China meta-analyzed data from 18 study reports and found high intake of vitamin C or ascorbic acid associated with significantly reduced risk for lung cancer. Specifically, those who had high intake of vitamin C were 17% less likely to be diagnosed with lung cancer, compared to those who had low intake of vitamin C. The risk reduction was even more significant in studies of Americans. The association was a dose-responsive linear relation. The researchers found that for every 100?mg/day increase in the intake of vitamin C, the risk of lung cancer decreased by 7%. (David Liu)*Source: Luo J, Shen L, Zheng D.
