Dear Readers:

Imagine a world where genetically engineered (GE) salmon take over our oceans, rivers, and streams. These fast-growing manufactured fish would outcompete and wipe out our treasured native salmon. Salmon fishing communities would be devastated and our marine environment would never be the same.

Unfortunately, this scenario is not far from reality. **The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is on the verge of making a decision about the approval of AquaBounty’s GE salmon. But Center for Food Safety (CFS) is ready to fight back.**

Through legal action and pressure on federal agencies, we’ve been able to keep this hazardous new fish out of our waters and off our plates for the past ten years. We need your help now, though. [**Will you make a donation today to help us keep up this important fight and keep GE salmon out of our waters?** ](http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=b55bl7l4RPTTGZGFD6WymBHvgzylv03G&ref=foodconsumer.org)

Each year, an estimated two million salmon escape from open-water net pens into the North Atlantic. \[1\] The approval of GE salmon would likely be the last blow to our wild salmon stocks, currently on the brink of extinction. A recent study even showed that GE salmon can breed with wild brown trout to create fast-growing GE hybrids, wreaking havoc on trout populations as well. To make matters worse, the human health impacts of eating GE fish are completely unknown. Some research shows that GE salmon are higher in fat and lower in Omega 3/6 fatty acids, protein and several vitamins and amino acids than wild or non-GE salmon. Moreover, as with land-based animal factories, fish farms indiscriminately use extraordinary amounts of antibiotics, adding to the growing problem of antibiotic resistance in humans.

**CFS continues to be on the front lines to stop the approval of this GE fish.** [**Please support our work to prevent GE salmon from invading our waters.**](http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=QJkPVzkMnUucw2%2FRVjD4fAwhi0rpyNdA&ref=foodconsumer.org)

With your donation, we will continue our successful strategies to pressure FDA, including legal actions, corporate campaigns, and grassroots organizing to prevent this GE salmon – and the more than 50 other new GE fish in the pipeline – keeping our food and our environment safe.

[Please make a donation to CFS this holiday season and help us protect our health, our environment, and our wild salmon from the hazards of genetically engineered fish.](http://salsa3.salsalabs.com/dia/track.jsp?v=2&c=dYjTuGtaI%2FZyBlZtj1JOiAwhi0rpyNdA&ref=foodconsumer.org)
