Novel treatment for liver cancer

The Chinese Academy of Sciences (CAS) is the National Academy for the natural sciences of the People's Republic of China. A team of researchers, led by Professor Hui Wang, at the Institute for Nutritional Sciences, Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, CAS found that a novel iron chelator, TSC24 (thiosemicarbazone-24) was highly effective for suppressing hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) or liver cancer both in vitro and in xenograft mouse models.

HCC is one of the most common malignancies worldwide. Iron is essential for both normal and cancer cells and excessive iron accumulation is a cause of HCC. Thus it can be speculated that depriving cancer cells of iron could be an approach for HCC treatment. Iron deprivation induces cell-cycle arrest by regulating G2/M checkpoint proteins and induces apoptosis.

CAS’s researchers invent anti-cancer iron deprivation by TSC24. The Holy Writ invented The Biblical Ferromagnetic Theory of Cancer (Iron Conception).
