A new Chinese study suggests that taking Amauroderma rude extract may help prevent or treat breast cancer.  Amauroderma rude is a fungus.  The study found Amauroderma rude has a higher inhibitory effect against breast cancer cell than Ganoderma lucidum, which is the most well-known medicinal mushroom with an anti-cancer activity.  Amauroderma rude was found able to kill cancer cells and induce apoptosis -  programmed cell deaths.  Researchers tested an Amauroderma rude extract on nude mice bearing tumors and found tumors grew at a slower rate, compared with the control mice.  The extract caused cell deaths and decreased proliferation.Jiao C, Xie YZ, Yang X, Li H, Li XM, Pan HH, Cai MH, Zhong HM, Yang BB.  (2013) Anticancer activity of Amauroderma rude.  PLoS One
